Now as a frugal dater, a first or second date should cost you less then one Andrew Jackson. (“That’s just our own personal rule”).
Now I’ve heard from some that women keep tabs on how much somebody spends on them and how much affection you get from them depends on where you’ve actually reached on the spending scale (we’re working on our piece about this actually and will link back later.)
This doesn’t mean you can’t have a great second date leaving a lasting first impression for under $20. This does not include any meals at a fast food joint’s dollar menu, coffee as the main course, using the free peanuts from the bar as the fill up either!! All of these things would lead to a lasting impression (and you being blocked from ever leaving a voice mail / text message / IM ever again).
Now I have this as a second date, because I don’t invite anyone over my place until after I’ve had at least one date to meet them (and check for the crazy eyes) go through a few of my own personal secret checks to see if I have a potential stalker on my hands. And I might suggest that you do the same.
So if you’re not a total klutz in the kitchen, and your tv is big enough to watch a movie on comfortably (meaning that it’s bigger then a large cell phone screen) , and last but not least, your place is presentable / you can get it alone for an evening.
Here’s what you’re going to need
Ingredients
---
8 ounces of chocolate (about one good sized bar)
1 package of fresh strawberries
Items
A blanket and some pillows
A large saucepan
A bowl that fits inside the saucepan
[Before your date arrives]
Get your spot ready where you’re going to have your romantic evening. Lay down the blanket (making sure it’s a clean blanket, and not the one that’s been on your bed for the past 2-6 months without being washed). Get your pillows together and arranged just right. You’ll get bonus points if they’re throw pillows or those special sham pillows from your bed that aren’t really used for sleeping on.
Now after you have this together you’re going to need to wash and dry the strawberries thoroughly. (If your berries are still wet when you go to dip them then your chocolate won’t harden correctly.)
Cut your chocolate up and then in a medium saucepan get water boiling. Place a small bowl in the center of the medium saucepan. Let the heat melt the chocolate down so that it becomes a liquid. (be sure to stir it regularly so that it stays consistent).
Get a pan (or a plate) ready to hold your strawberries to dry. If you have wax paper then that’s the best to line the pan or plate with.
Once your chocoloate has melted to a smooth consististancy you’re ready for dipping. Grab a strawberry by the stem or by the top and plunge it in the chocolate letting a little red remain on top. Pull it out and give it a twist as the chocolate is dripping off.
Place it on the pan to dry.
Allow the chocolate to dry and harden to a bit of a shell. If this is going too slowly and you’re running out of time then you can place the tray in the freezer to speed up the process.
