One of my biggest problem with dating review sites is all they want to do is review and give you links to sites where they can make an affiliated commission. How do they make that commission? By you signing up as a subscriber – so the free dating sites never get reviewed.
Now if you type in Free dating into Google you’ll get thousands of results, this is for sites that will give you a free profile and as soon as someone sends you a message – well you better have a credit card or a paypal account ready if you want to read it or half the time even see who it is.
There are actually quite a few totally free online dating sites, but you have to be able to dig through all the links of the sites that offer a “free profile” which only offer you to make a profile and then once you want to do anything like contact someone or read a message that someone’s sent you, then it’s time to break out your credit card.
Be prepared though because all the free sites run on advertising revenue, so most are extremely ad heavy – and some aren’t the greatest things to look at. Add to the fact with little advertising budgets that sometimes the member bases are much fewer then a lot of the big paid sites. (Scammers can also lurk on some of the free sites, so make sure the person has more then one picture and isnt’ just hiding behind the default “ask me for a picture”) And never ever ever send anyone money on any of these sites no matter how bad the love bug bites you.

Plenty of Fish |
|
| POF as it’s known was once the be all of free dating. However recent actions seem to make it look like POF is trying to move to a subscriber based model. They’ve derived a matching algorithm based on both staff and user submitted questions and how each person answers them. You can after a point in time go back and modify your answers if the way you answered in the past doesn’t match your current opinion.
FEATURES: Who’s viewed me, Showing if an email has been read CONS: Plenty of users on boards all over talk about the amount of scammers on POF. |

Mingles |
|
| Mingles seems to be an alternative for those that seem to be tired of swimming in the POF pool or need a break from the sharks in the POF pond. Build around the same mindset of free features of picture upload chat, message boards searchability and the like it’s built a decent user base and that’s where a lot of other free dating sites have failed. FEATURES: Strong user base, the ability to search by user name or tags (keywords), has both an intimate and regular areas (to try and seperate the extra horney people). CONS: There’s plenty of banner ads to look at, but they have to pay their bills too |

Okcupid.com | |
| OkCupid is definitely one of the best (if not the best) looking free dating websites. They also have a rather large userbase. The new features and tests help to add new users all the time.
They’ve derived a matching algorithm based on both staff and user submitted questions and how each person answers them. You can after a point in time go back and modify your answers if the way you answered in the past doesn’t match your current opinion. FEATURES: There’s lots of online quizzes on OKC and by takeing these different types of icons will show up on your profile, some correct, a lot incorrect depending on how you answer the quzzies and questions. Things like “more greedy” or “less desiring of sex” (these can really add to somebody’s first impression of you) There’s also something called the Quiver – long story short these are the three people that the automatic search engine thinks that you might be a good match with. CONS: It’s more then just a simple profile to fill out, there’s about 5 sections including the 5 things you can’t live without – but on a glass half full side it can give a much better picture of someone. My biggest con with OKC is that it preforms horribly on a mobile web browser. |

PeopleFinder.com | |
| PeopleFinder doesn’t quite have the member base of some of the top free sites, but it does have plenty of features. Their specialty is specialties. Once you sign up for a free peoplefinder account, then you instantly have an account on 18 other nitch sites to find exactly the type of person that you’re looking for. This too however might be a bit of their downfall as being so diverse doesn’t allow for enough users to gather in a single site so searches can sometimes seem a little stale.
Some of the sites include: Christian Fishing, Fitness Fishing, College Fishing, Horny Fishing, Gefilte Fishing, People Pet Fishing, Soul Fishing, Picante Fishing, Boy Boy Fishing, Girl Girl Fishing, Silver Fishing, Parent Fishing, GI Fishing, Veggie Fishing, and more. FEATURES: PROS: Being able to check if someone has read your email that you’ve sent (or just deleted it) |

ConnectingSingles.com | |
| It’s not going to win any awards for web design, but it does have a decent amount of features, The search engine allows for a lot of customizing as well as being able to search by tag clouded words.
Another good thing is that they purge their member base regularly for non working emails and profiles with jibberish and profanity. The demographic seems to be a little older then some of the other sites, so people past their 20s would probably have more success then some of the others, (but how would I know) PROS: |

bookofmatches.com | |
| BookofMatches (BOM) has done some work to the look and feel of their site in the past year. Hence making the usability a bit better. FEATURES: On the top of the pages there’s a constant bar showing you who’s last viewed your profile. (although the constant browser CONS: This site has a hit or miss user base. My email has gone months without my profile ever being looked at, and then all the sudden I’m having a few views a day for a week or so. |

mingle2.com | |
| mingle2 isn’t the usual type of dating site like some of the others above so far. It takes a connect approach using a multimedia experience with webcams and mics for more of a virtual meeting experience. If you’re past gen X then you’re probabily going to find most of the members on here a fair bit younger then yourself (and although that may sound appealing to you – they might not feel the same way)
FEATURES: They’re taking a new approach of incorporating webcams and microphones into online dating with their connect feature. You can also send and read messages that somebody sends you for free CONS: There’s really not a “profile” of someone to look at. You can browse through their pictures and look at their likes and dislikes and then click the connect button to meet with them when you’re both online, |

Kisscafe.com | |
| Kisscafe.com has potential to be a good free dating site if they could just get their user base up. The profile set up was extremely easy consisting on one page and allowing you to choose things from dropdown lists instead of just having to type everything into the text fields. Also they have a few different images (some which are pretty cute) for users which haven’t uploaded pictures yet so you don’t see the same old tired (ask this user to upload a picture) each time.
FEATURES: Besides free message sending and receiving this site does have a decent amount of features. Things like a blog for your profile and ask a question which would get responses from everyone powered by eureka. CONS: When I did a search of local people in a 10 mile radius I came up with all of 10 people (and half of those hadn’t logged in since 2 months ago, and I live in a major city). Also on the homepage there’s a HUGE ad that takes up a lot of the prime real estate, but you can’t blame them too much for that since they’re keeping the site free. (see screenshot) |

meetyourgreens.com | |
| Meetyourgreens.com now this site is definitely on that looks like a free site. It has the feel of POF about 5-6 years ago . This almost looks like somebody’s hobby site. More profiles had no pictures then did.FEATURES: There’s really not many features at all on this site. What I can say about it is that is it’s not the usual list of people that I’ve seen on almost every other dating site, So if you’re run your course on some of the other free dating sites and need to give them a break, but don’t want to give up on free online dating then this might be a site for you. You still can look at pictures plus send and receive emails for free. CONS: Selection is SLIM and some of the profiles seem to not have been active for over 3 months. (meaning they don’t have a good purging technique yet). |
